28/09/2022

A mobile laboratory has been inaugurated in Lviv, Ukraine, to create prostheses for those who have lost one or more limbs in the war. With an investment of one million euro, this initiative is part of the ‘Unbroken Ukraine’ project, achieved thanks to Malteser Ukraine, the Order of Malta’s organization operating in the country.

“This project is yet another element of the Order of Malta’s commitment in Ukraine,” said Fra’ Alessandro de Franciscis, Grand Hospitaller. “Reducing suffering and giving hope to people who have had traumatic amputations are part of our priorities.”

“We only started talking about this idea in June. In times of war, you have to find immediate solutions. This mobile laboratory, which we acquired from Ottobock, world leader in prosthetics, is a fast and effective solution to help people who have lost one or more limbs during the war in Ukraine,” said Pavlo Titko, head of Malteser Ukraine. The project is supported financially by the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the initiative of the German Ministry of Health.

The Order of Malta continues to be very busy in Ukraine. Around the capital Kiev, it distributes food parcels and humanitarian aid for the needier sections of the population, thanks to the cooperation of the Order of Malta’s Embassy in Ukraine with the Kyiv Regional Administration, and thanks to the efforts of Malteser Ukraine and Malteser International, the Order of Malta’s international relief agency which coordinates the Order’s support for the Ukrainian people on a global level.
