The St. John the Baptist Hospital, managed by Acismom (Association of Italian Knights of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta), has enlarged and inaugurated three new units: the Outpatients’ Pavilion, the Day Hospital and the Leisure Centre.
The Baduel pavilion is now ready to house specialist outpatients’ departments for ophthalmology, surgery, dermatology, ear, nose and throat, neurology, physiatry, orthopaedics, allergology, endocrinology, diabetology, urology, radiology with CAT, BMD and traditional radiology.
The new Day Hospital will offer rehabilitation therapy to those who do not need to be hospitalized and can return home to their families after treatment. Typical cases for which the Day Hospital can be used include slipped discs and paraplegic rehabilitation.
Also inaugurated during the same ceremony was the Leisure Centre for religious and recreational initiatives to render the patients’ stay in hospital as comfortable as possible, part of the Order’s philosophy.
Mass was celebrated in this new area by Msgr. Angelo Acerbi, Prelate of the Order, together with the Chaplain of the Italian Association, Msgr. Giuseppe Azelio Manzetti.
The Prince and Grand Master of the Order, Fra’ Andrew Bertie, presided over the ceremony accompanied by members of the Sovereign Council and by the Grand Prior of Rome, Fra’ Franz von Lobstein.
