The Grand Chancellor of the Sovereign Order of Malta, Albrecht Boeselager, visited Kiev, Ukraine from 4th to 6th April. The possibility of developing new cooperation and humanitarian aid projects was one of the key topics of the meeting with Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk. During the talks the prime minister expressed his great appreciation for the Sovereign Order of Malta’s humanitarian missions in so many countries and the Ukrainian citizens’ gratitude for the assistance of the Order’s volunteer corps in the country since the early 1990s.
During his visit, Albrecht Boeselager met personalities of the political and diplomatic spheres, leaders and volunteers of the Order’s volunteer corps in Ukraine and, visiting Maidan Square, paid homage to the victims of the revolution.
At Kiev State University the Grand Chancellor participated in a conference on “The Order of Malta and Ukraine – history, present and future”, in the presence of numerous diplomats, religious, leaders of international organizations, students and volunteers.
The Sovereign Order of Malta has enjoyed diplomatic relations with Ukraine since 2008.
