Updating the health system by storing patients’ clinical data on computer: Indonesia has been tackling this challenge since 2005, when the tsunami highlighted the need for a computer-based health information system. Malteser International is working with the local authorities of the Aceh district, the first to implement this kind of project, to reduce the still very high mother-child mortality rate in this country.

Training for health centres’ staff in software for storing patient data ended in July. A new project stage is now underway, involving a team of specialists for assuring the sustainable use of the programs in the health centres.
