The inspiring work of the Order of Malta volunteer service in Ireland was recognised at the recent ‘Better Together Awards’ in Dublin Castle winning the ‘People’s Choice Award’ for the highest number of votes for their video submission.

Aidan O’Brien, National Director of the Ambulance Corps and also a volunteer, was presented the award by RTE television presenter, Mary Kennedy. The video highlighted the impact of the work in the community carried out by 4,000 strong volunteer Ambulance Corps who travelled  over 300,000 kilometers, transporting over 12,000 patients with over 100,000 volunteer hours of duty last year – which actually equates to an amazing figure of 1 person working 24/7 for over 12 years!

The International Camp for Young Disabled in August 2013 also featured in the video showing 450 people from 20 countries, coming together to enjoy a week of activities promoting friendship, teamwork, achievement and inclusion for young disabled people. The Camp attendees and their carers were also supported by over 250 Irish Order of Malta volunteers.
