The Order of Malta has opened a new facility, Malteser Ordenshaus, with some 70 rooms and apartments for the elderly in the heart of the Austrian capital.
Preceded by Holy Mass, the inauguration was held on 15 July in the presence of the Grand Hospitaller, Dominique de la Rochefoucauld-Montbel and the heads of the Grand Priory of Austria. The ceremony took place in a festive and joyful atmosphere in the splendid garden surrounding the convent of the Sisters of St. Elizabeth.
The baroque building has been extended with a new wing, equipped with modern facilities and great attention to detail for the needs of elderly residents. It now offers 53 rooms and 14 apartments for singles or couples.
Residents have access to 24-hour healthcare provided by Malteser Care. There are numerous community spaces on each floor as well as two large terraces and a library on the ground floor. All rooms and facilities, lifts, doors and passages have barrier-free access. There is also a department for physiotherapy and motor activities.
Established in 2010, Malteser Care is one of the aid organisations of the Order of Malta’s Grand Priory of Austria. It is specialized in offering, organizing and ensuring the best possible assistance with home carers, home-care nurses and qualified nurses. Its headquarters is today in the Ordenshaus.
