Malteser Ukraine – the Order of Malta’s Relief Corps in Ukraine – has inaugurated a house for displaced persons in Sambir, near Lviv. The structure, a former clinic, covers almost 800 square metres, has three floors and can accommodate some 100 people.

“In just six months we managed to renovate the house to receive people displaced by the war. The roof, windows, flooring, electrical and plumbing systems have been completely upgraded. Guests will enjoy privacy with separate rooms for each nucleus, with kitchens, toilets, showers and laundry,” said Pavlo Titko, head of Malteser Ukraine.

“Some 3,500 internally displaced people live in our community, so we have a huge need for housing. 105 people will live in this facility,” explained Yuriy Gamar, mayor of Sambir.

The Order of Malta’s Ambassador to Ukraine, Antonio Gazzanti Pugliese di Cotrone, attended the inauguration of the house.

The project was made possible thanks to funding from Malteser International and Aktion Deutschland Hilft.
