A brand new four storey clinic built by the Polish Association of the Order of Malta and totally financed through donations and appeals was consecrated on 24 June by the Metropolitan Archbishop of Poznań, H.E.Stanisław Gądecki. The clinic is in the grounds of the Church of St. John of Jerusalem Outside the Walls, donated to the Order of Malta by the Archbishop.
The clinic, ‘Komandoria,’ will accommodate a number of medical specialists, including oncologists, radiologists, surgeons and orthopedists, all offering their services free of charge. It replaces an older structure where the Polish Association of the Order of Malta has offered a free medical service for 20 years, treating 87,000 patients in that time.
Project development
Plans currently underway for the new clinic include organising activities for children from impoverished families and special activities for the elderly; occupational therapy for the disabled; and a new space for the Polish Order of Malta emergency and ambulance corps which specialises in first aid and emergency response at mass events.
During the opening ceremony Dr. Grażyna Zengteler, head of the clinic since its founding, was honoured by the Mayor of Poznań and by the Order of Malta. Distinguished guests at the ceremony included Tomasz Kayser, First Vice-Mayor of Poznań; Grzegorz Ganowicz, Head of the City Council of Poznań; Przemysław Pacia, vice-governor of the Wielkopolskie Province, and Vincenzo Manno, Ambassador of the Sovereign Order of Malta to Poland.
