A new hospital centre was recently inaugurated in Nzibira, in the South Kivu region of the Democratic Republic of Congo. With the support of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the Canadian government, Malteser International has renovated the health centre built three years ago by the population, providing it with a better facilities – also to assist women victims of sexual violence – and two pavilions for surgery and maternity.

Thanks to this initiative the health centre now ranks as a hospital serving a population of 58,000. The Order of Malta’s International Relief Corps has also provided medical equipment and furniture donated by UNFPA together with a solar system for permanent lighting.
