In its session of 16 April 2005, the Order of Malta’s Sovereign Council, or government, elected Jean-Pierre Mazery as Grand Chancellor.

He succeeds Bailiff Jacques de Liedekerke who has held the position of Grand Chancellor since 1 January 2002 and who has resigned for family reasons.

In accordance with articles 151 and 152 of the Constitutional Charter and Code, the Grand Chancellor also takes on the functions of the Order of Malta’s Minister of Domestic and Foreign Affairs. His responsibilities include representation of the Order, conduct of policy and internal administration and supervision of the Order’s diplomatic missions.

Jean-Pierre Mazery, Grand Cross of Grace and Devotion in Obedience, is of French nationality and has been a member of the Order of Malta since 1975.
