Today, the Secretary General of Emergency Corps of the Order of Malta left for Amman, Jordan, accompanied by an expert in emergency aid from the French Association of the Order. Through the diplomatic actions of the Order’s Ambassador in Jordan, they will meet representatives of Jordanian relief organisations and the Jordanian government in Amman, as well as representatives of the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) and international and local relief organisations. The aim of this contact assessment is to identify possible partners for the carrying out of support missions in the border region between Jordan and Iraq.
At present, all necessary items for survival can be bought in the country itself, which offers the benefit of saving money and time and also means we can support the local market. For the time being, ECOM is unlikely to send personnel, but, once special needs have been identified, personnel and materials may be sent.
We already have an increasing need of financial resources in order
To reinforce our actions with local partners, we need additional financial help. Therefore we would like to ask all of the Order of Malta Associations to support the ECOM mission in its humanitarian initiatives in the Iraq crisis.
