The new frontiers of security between technologies and direct action. This is the theme of the panel attended by the Sovereign Military Order of Malta’s Grand Chancellor Riccardo Paternò di Montecupo, within the framework of the sixth edition of the “Forum in Masseria” event, held in Manduria, Puglia, from 5th to 7th July.
The forum which, after the winter edition in Saturnia, returns to Salento and specifically to the masseria of journalist Bruno Vespa, highlighted the consequences of last month’s European election. The debates ranged from energy transition to infrastructure, from work to health and safety, from industrial progress to the development of the Italian business system. The main humanitarian emergencies were also on the table.
In his speech, Grand Chancellor Riccardo Paternò di Montecupo stressed the Order of Malta’s role in current crisis scenarios. “The Order of Malta is currently active in the main ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza. In Ukraine we provide extensive humanitarian aid, distributing hot meals to displaced people and providing beds in shelters,” he explained, also stressing the imperative of protecting volunteer engagement, something to which the Order pays particular attention. The panel was also attended by the Minister of the Interior, Matteo Piantedosi, Marta Dassù, Senior Director of European Affairs of the Aspen Institute, and Rick Smith, founder and president of Axon, the American industry that exports tasers to Italy.
