14/09/2007

The heavy rain which caused serious flooding at the beginning of September in many regions of Burkina Faso has to date killed 33 people, injured 76 and caused considerable material damage.

The Burkina Faso emergency and ambulance corps based at Bobo Dioulasso, set up by the Ordre de Malte France, helped to transport victims to the nearest hospital structures. At the request of the Ministry of Social Affairs the Order of Malta in Burkina Faso has also provided four community tents, camp beds and blankets.

According to the Ministry’s initial assessment, there are over 4,600 displaced people. On Saturday 15 September, the Prime Minister will go to the village of Satir to bring support for the people. During his visit, he will thank the Order of Malta for its intervention.
