In the Democratic Republic of Congo one of Malteser International’s projects in fighting malaria is to distribute mosquito nets for the beds of all the mothers who deliver in the Hospital of Ifendula. Currently, this is 200 nets each month. This regular and free distribution of mosquito nets is encouraging pregnant women to go to the hospital for delivery – much safer than traditional deliveries at home. Thus, the mosquito nets indirectly help to reduce the number of maternal and child deaths.
Malteser International, the Order’s worldwide relief service, fights malaria in many countries in Africa and Asia.
