Presided over by the Lieutenant of the Grand Master Fra’ John Dunlap and Cardinal Silvano Maria Tomasi, Special Delegate of the Pope, the Extraordinary Chapter General of the Sovereign Order of Malta is underway near Rome.
The Chapter General has the task of safeguarding the Order’s charism and bringing it up to date by acknowledging and addressing the Order’s most important issues. It plans activities, verifies the state of the Order’s assets and guides international relations. The Chapter General meets every six years to elect the members of the Sovereign Council (the government of the Order of Malta) and seven members of the Board of Auditors.
Yesterday, the second day of the work of the Extraordinary General Chapter, the High Charges of the Sovereign Council were elected for the period 2023-2029:
Grand Commander: Fra’ Emmanuel Rousseau
Grand Chancellor: Riccardo Paternò di Montecupo
Grand Hospitaller: Fra’ Alessandro de Franciscis
Receiver of the Common Treasure: Fabrizio Colonna di Paliano
The Extraordinary Chapter General is attended by 111 members of the Order of Malta from five continents. The Chapter will conclude on Sunday 29 January.
