On 5 October 2018 diplomatic relations were established between the Sovereign Order of Malta and the Republic of Nauru through the signing of a protocol at the seat of Nauru’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York.
The agreement was signed by Amb. Oscar R. de Rojas y Villa, Permanent Observer of the Sovereign Order of Malta to the United Nations and Amb. Marlene Moses, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Nauru at the United Nations.
Island country in Micronesia, Nauru has been independent since 1968, and today has about 10,000 inhabitants.
The agreement with the Republic of Nauru raises the number of countries that have diplomatic relations with the Sovereign Order of Malta to 108.
