The Grand Magistry of the Order of Malta shares the grief of the family and members of the Belgian Association for the death of Count Jacques de Liedekerke on 30 July last. Among the many posts he held in the Order of Malta was that of Grand Chancellor from January 2002 to April 2005.
Count Jacques de Liedekerke, Bailiff Grand Cross of Honour and Devotion in Obedience, was admitted in 1984 into the Belgian Association. He dedicated over thirty years of his life to the Order of Malta, first as Deputy Representative and then Representative of the Sovereign Order of Malta to the Kingdom of Belgium between 1985 and 2001, then in June 1999, the Order of Malta’s Chapter General elected him as a member of the Government Council. The Sovereign Council – chaired by Grand Master Fra’ Andrew Bertie – elected him to the Order’s third office, that of Grand Chancellor in December 2001, a post he took up on 1 January 2002 and served with distinction.
The Grand Magistry remembers him for his commitment and dedication, his gentle manner and his love for Italy.
The Lieutenant of the Grand Master, Fra’ John T. Dunlap, sent a message to his family.
