The Grand Master of the Order of Malta, Fra’ Andrew Bertie, received Cardinal Christoph Schönborn, Archbishop of Vienna in the Magistral Palace this morning.

In his speech, the Grand Master quoted a phrase from the cardinal’s writings: «…what is lacking in Europe today is not economic potential, but the strength of faith in Jesus Christ and in the dignity of each person. Europe is not only an opportunity or a possibility that is offered to us, but a mission, a strong call to work passionately and patiently to enable this continent to rediscover its soul…».

During the meeting the Grand Master conferred on Cardinal Schönborn the insignia of Bailiff Grand Cross of Honour and Devotion with which he is admitted to the Order.
