On 24 March, World TB Day, Malteser International, in cooperation with the health departments of Southern Sudan, launched an information campaign during a series of events held in this country.
Tuberculosis is a serious disease in Southern Sudan, also because of its high mortality rate. TB sufferers either do not follow the treatment or decide to be examined when it is already too late. Alerting communities through information campaigns fosters timely access to medical treatment, reducing the effects of tuberculosis. Malteser International’s programme in Southern Sudan, also covering HIV patients, is financed by ECHO (European Commission Humanitarian Aid) and by the Global Fund.
