Blankets, heavy jackets and foodstuffs to cope with the extremely cold winters in an area of Peru that can reach artic temperatures. The Order of Malta’s Peruvian Association has mobilized its volunteer corps Malteser Peru to set up an emergency relief programme. Last July, with Malteser International, the association distributed basic necessities to several villages in the highlands around the city of Puno, almost 4.000 metres above the banks of Titicaca, the world’s highest navigable lake.

Malteser International has been cooperating with the Peruvian volunteer corps since the earthquake of 2007.
