The Alliance of the Orders of Saint John meet on Friday 12 and Saturday 13 April, hosted by the Sovereign Order of Malta in the Magistral Palace of Rome, for two days of prayer, reflections and initiatives.
The meeting was opened by an ecumenical ceremony in the church of the Santissima Trinità degli Spagnoli, exceptionally attended by Reverend Martin Browne, OSB, representing the Dicastery for Promoting Christian Unity. Also present were the Order of Malta’s Grand Master, Fra’ John Dunlap, together with the Grand Commander, Fra’ Emmanuel Rousseau, the Grand Hospitaller, Fra’ Alessandro de Franciscis and Michael Grace, member of the Sovereign Council and President of the Commission for Names and Emblems.
For the first time this year, all five prelates of the Alliance participated in the meeting. Monsignor Luis Manuel Cuña Ramos, appointed by Pope Francis on 21 December 2023, participated for the Order of Malta.
During the meeting, satisfaction was expressed for the many initiatives carried out jointly in recent years in Ukraine and for the various activities of the youth group. Several projects are underway, including the “Johanniter Mission Siret”, also involving three volunteers from the Italian Relief Corps, and the Summer Camp organized by the four Orders of Saint John in Estonia next July, with the possible participation of young Order of Malta volunteers.
The four Orders of Saint John of Jerusalem are associated with the Alliance of the Orders of Saint John and share with the Order of Malta their historical tradition and vocation of caring for the sick and the poor. The Order of Malta’s next meeting with the Alliance of the Orders of Saint John will be held in Berlin in early July 2025.
