A special Malteser International project covers the needs of children between five and twelve years who spend most of the day in the streets of Kabul, unattended.

The 31,000 Euro care project was launched in December, in cooperation with the Cooperation Center for Afghanistan’s Reconstruction and Development (CCARD) and with support from the Afghanistan-Hilfe Paderborn and Malteser teams from Moers (Germany).

During the coming months, CCARD will offer daily care services, schooling support lessons and social education as well as a daily hot meal for 160 children from poor families. In the western part of the capital, over 15,000 families still live in dire poverty; 2,500 families are fatherless; 1,000 children have lost both parents and have experienced traumatic events which have prevented them from attending regular school.

The project will help them to recover, to find a way back to normality and with this assistance, they will take their first steps towards a better and more secure future.
