In one of the poorest suburbs of Santiago de los Caballeros – second city of the Dominican Republic – over a thousand people were examined during the six-monthly visit organized by the Order’s Cuban Association in Miami.
At the beginning of June, in cooperation with Cooperadores de salud, the local health association that carries out a prior screening of patients, twelve of the Order’s doctors (cardiologists, gynaecologists, pediatricians, infectious-disease specialists and dentists), five pharmacists, eight nurses and twelve volunteers performed over 2,500 examinations in four days.
Medicines valuing some 100,000 dollars were also distributed, a useful reserve for the next six months.
